Hello out there in support land.

I have all of the PCs in my network locked down tightly for security reasons. I only grant users access to change the folders they need as they need them.

What I would like to know is this: To which folder is the smsxmsi.inf attempting to install? I have, potentially, 20-25 users that are going to need this installed and would rather not have to take the time to go to, or remote into, every PC and would rather
not push out through GPO.

Your co-operation would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade to the latest release of ScriptX on a Windows Server 2008 R2 running Remote desktop services.

During the install process, the installation fails with an error that it needs a file named smsxw.msi to proceed. I am guessing this is associated with the previous version. However, we cannot find the original installer and do not have access to that MSI
file.

After some initial research I found a suggestion to rename the scriptx.msi file to smsxw.msi but unfortunately this did not resolve the issues.

Any ideas on where I can access the original installer or how to resolve the install issue?

Thanks,

We have placed the smsx.cab file for version 7,4,0,8 on the web server and changed the reference in source code to point to the new version. I have tested the upgrade in IE8, IE10, & IE11 (it is necessary to test in all 3 because our customers from different
agencies are using different versions of IE). Only IE8 works correctly in formatting. Well, it has worked fine with the 6,5,x,x version. So that is no surprise. However, both IE10 and IE11 do not format correctly after downloading the new version to the two
PCs. A portion of the the text at the end of one page is spilled onto the next page, which is not supposed to happen and is not happening in IE8. The only remedy for these newer IE environments after the upgrade is to switch on the Compatibility View. The
formatting will then work properly. This doesn't seem right. If the formatting needs Compatibility View to work, then what is the point of the upgrade? Is there something that we have missed? Or is this how it's suppposed to be for version 7,4,0,8?

We use Novell ZENworks to distribute applications across the enterprise, and we've figured out the "requires local admin" challenge of pre-installing the MeadCo ScriptX plugin using the msi and ZENworks' ability to dynamically create a local administrator
on demand. What we're running into now is that a vendor we are about to enter into a service contract with uses (I *think*) the licensed version of ScriptX, which includes an "Advanced Printing" feature that our end-users are not being prompted for until
they reach a page that requires it. In an enterprise environment where users are not typically local administrators of their desktops, the user gets prompted to "Clink YES or NO" to enable Advanced Printing, and if they choose YES then are then hit with the
UAC.

Is there a way to pre-enable/authorize/install the Advanced Printing feature(s) when I install ScriptX? Elevating our end-users to local administrators is a non-starter, so I'm looking for options available to enterprise systems administrators.

We are using the free version of ScriptX v7.0.0.8. Our enterprise users are migrating from Windows XP with administrator privileges to Windows 7 with non-administrator privileges. Our application now prompts the users for elevated UAC credentials when
they encouter an smsx.cab object ScriptX reference. We want to supress this prompting and allow ScriptX to install. To accomplish this, we have implemented an ActiveX installer group policy change for our internal server to allow it to install (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721964(v=ws.10).aspx).
However it is still prompting for UAC after this policy is applied. We noticed that the ScriptX certificate is expired as of 3/7/2011. Does this prevent the unprompted install? Is there a new certificate available?

ScriptX v7 (and later) now use Windows Installer technology (msi) for all installs.

The Resource Kits contain ScriptX.msi for pre-installation of ScriptX. This must be run as an administrator, any prior installation of ScriptX will be removed before v7 is installed.

smsx.cab is a wrapper on ScriptX.msi for delivering ScriptX to client PCs via Internet Explorer's Add-in Manager. As usual, this is a direct replacement for previous versions of smsx.cab. Copy the new version over previous versions on your server(s). As
is usual for smsx.cab, administrator priviledges are required to complete the installation. Any previous version will be removed before installing.

To remove ScriptX from a PC, use Add/Remove programs .. or Uninstall a program (Windows 7).
