Is There a Version of ScriptX That Can be Used in Both IE 8 and IE 10?

We are currently using the free basic ScriptX for one of our web applications. We downloaded a new version when we upgraded from IE 7 to IE 8. This has been working fine for all of our customers until recently when some of them have upgraded to IE 10. The version that we have now seems to be ignored by IE 10. Is there a way to work around this so our customers using both versions of IE can all print their documents formatted correctly? What we have now is version 6.5 (?). If we need to update the version to 7.0 in order to cover IE 10, will this new version be backward compatible to also cover IE 8?

Yes. Each new binary versuion is always backwards-compatible.

******************

BINARY DEPLOYMENT

******************

The latest 32-bit .msi-based 7.2.0.36 release packages are here:

  http://my.meadroid.com/scriptx/bits/7.2.0.36/smsx.cab

  http://my.meadroid.com/scriptx/bits/7.2.0.36/scriptx.msi

Both packages contain the same bits, and these days the MANDATORY requirement for local admin privileges is identical regardless of whether you choose an online install (smsx.cab) or local (ScriptX.msi).

Please note that you can access these files from our site, but you shouldn't deploy them from there.

Download whatever you need and deploy them from your own servers.

FYI, here's the boilerplate for the local install:

****************

****************

Please do this (EXACTLY, in full, no workarounds available):

Log on to your PC(s) with full local computer administrator privileges:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

**VITAL**: this will NOT work if you don't do this, or have someone else do it for you.

Please do NOT proceed past this point without access to local admin privileges (i.e. someone must be logged on as a member of your PC's computer administrator user group. NOT 'domain' or 'virtual' or 'remote' or any other sort of admin, this must be *local*).

If you are not the administrator for your machine you will need to contact your systems administrator for their help.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

ONLY THEN:

Run this file:

  http://my.meadroid.com/scriptx/bits/7.2.0.36/scriptx.msi

(Remember that you should right-click on the .msi file, choose 'Properties' and then on the 'General' tab click the 'UNBLOCK' button and then click 'OK' to allow the binaries to install correctly.)

This will install the current release of ScriptX.

Thank you very much for the prompt and detailed response, Jerry. Last time when we upgraded (to 6.xxx version), we downloaded a copy of the .cab file and placed it on our Web server. When our customers tried to print for the first time after the upgrade, they had to do a download to their individual PCs. I assume it will be the same this time around, correct?

Hi

"When our customers tried to print for the first time after the upgrade, they had to do a download to their individual PCs"

Yes, sure. Each PC needs to get the updated software installed. Don't forget the requirement for installation by a logged-on local admin, as above:

"Both packages contain the same bits, and these days the MANDATORY requirement for local admin privileges is identical regardless of whether you choose an online install (smsx.cab) or local (ScriptX.msi)."

Hi Jerry, I just downloaded the latest version to a test PC and deployed the smxs.cab to the Web server. I was prompted to download to the client when I tried to print. I did that and everything seemed to go smoothly up to that point. However, the document formatting behaved as if the new version did not exist. The resulted printout looks exactly like the one our customer had when she tried to print in IE10 with version 6.5.x that we upgraded to for IE8. Of course the problem can be resolved by using the Compatibility View with or without the latest version download. But what is the point of the upgrade then? Can you think of anything that I might have missed? Thanks.

If this is licensed use, please take it off-group and drop me a line at feedback@meadroid.com

If 'free' use I suggest that you build yourself one or two very simple test pages to ensure that ScriptX is working properly for you in IE10.

You might also want to check that you have 7,2,0,36 properly installed here:

http://scriptxsamples.meadroid.com/Basic/InstalledVersion/release/DOCTYPE

And remember that IE10 may be behaving differently to IE8 with your content, regardless of ScriptX..

Never mind. I think I did something incorrectly on the client. I unstall the upgrade on the PC and re-installed. It is now working great in IE 10. Thanks for all your help, Jerry.
